Sri Lalithambigai Medical College and Hospital (SLMCH) is one of the new generation and prime institution of medical education in Chennai Tamil Nadu, was established in the year 2021. This co-educational institution is linked with the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University and its main focus to deliver the best of the education in the Medical and Allied Sciences. SLMCH has received accreditation from the NMC as a testimony of conformity to higher standards in learning. 

The college has only one undergraduate programme – Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with an approved annual student uptake of one hundred and fifty (150) students. It highlights the teams’ expertise and focus to detail in its excellent infrastructures and in the extensive medical education they offer through SLMCH.

This college has numerous accommodation facilities that are worthy of producing today’s quality education. The facilities which are available on the campus include; these lecture halls, which are well equipped, smart classrooms inclusive. A library is at the heart of the MCI providing the medical intern with an opportunity to read 3,063 books, 6 foreign magazine/journals, and 14 regional/Indian magazines/journals. 

The library also provides students with an air conditioned computer room with Medlar and Internet facilities to prepare students for computer literacy. In the practical elution, SLMCH has put up a clinical skill lab and an intensive care unit which enables the students to experience clinical practical aspects closely monitored. The college also possess a museum in order to illustrate or support theory learnt in class.

SLMCH currently provides only one course, the MBBS which is an undergraduate course that takes for six years full time. With an authorized intake of 150 students for the whole college for MBBS course, the possibilities are plenty for fresh Medical students. Though there is no explicit information about the rate of graduation because the college is comparatively new, SLMCH always strives to produce consistent quality medical professionals.

The process of admission in Sri Lalithambigai Medical College and Hospital is done on the merit basis and has been set in adherence of certain norms which are ethical. Students aspiring to join the college must afford to sit and write the Kenya Medical Training College National Eligibility cum Entrance Test also known as KUSA NEET. The results obtained in the NEET assessment are used for admissions to the MBBS course in SLMCH. Only those candidates who are on the successful list as per the minimum cutoff mark set in NEET exam are allowed to proceed with counseling for seat allotment.

Although the exact admission dates can significantly differ each year, some of them are scheduled due to the NEET examination and the counseling process provided by the competent bodies. Also reintroducing, NEET is the only entrance examination recognized by SLMCH for the MBBS programmes hence the college’s adherence to equity in its admission process.
