Sri Ramakrishna College of Education, established in Perambalur of Tamil Nadu state, is closely associated with the dream of building institutions for the future generation of teachers. This co-educational college was started in 2006 and has been incubating teachers for more than a decade and a half. The college occupies a relatively small area of 1 acre of land, hence providing its students with a conducive learning atmosphere. The institute is academically sizable with a total strength of 395 students and a dedicated faculty of 30, which is way more beneficial than the student-teacher ratio as it gives more individual and imparted attention.
The college has numerous installations intended to improve and complement the education and learning experience of the learners. The library, open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 pm, stocks a large number of books, journals, and printed reference documents with special emphasis on mental retardation. As for the practical education, the college offers properly equipped departmental laboratories for students’ practice. The ICT Centre has a capacity to include 25 students at a time, provides up-to-date IT facilities, and is opened after classes. Facilitating physical fitness and sports, the college has a gym and sprawling facilities such as football and cricket fields, as well as a playground for hockey and areas for tennis, basketball, and more.
Sri Ramakrishna College of Education currently offers one primary course: The focus of this study is on the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programme. This course is a full-time, two-year course with an approved intake capacity of one hundred (100) student teachers to ensure that the college gives quality education to as many teachers-in-training as possible. The B.Ed. programme is meant for giving the students the sound preparation required to practice in the field of education.
Admission to all programmes in Sri Ramakrishna College of Education is based on educational merit with or without an entrance test based on marks secured in the qualifying examination. The admission policies of the college are in accordance with the state government, union territory administration, and the affiliated university. This makes the process very fair to all applicants by removing any sort of bias that may creep into the process. Prospective students should also know that the college is accredited by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), meaning that the college operates under guidelines provided by national stakeholders in teacher education.
Regarding student’s welfare, Sri Ramakrishna College of Education focuses the same importance as other formulated policies, offering the hostel for both boys and girls. These hostels are within the campus so as to enhance fellowship and personality formation of the characters that are needed for the teaching profession. The college transport facility, which is part of a fleet of over 80 buses, makes it easier for students and members of staff to be ferried from different parts of the city. This is as a result of its complete infrastructural amenities, its specialised instructional offerings, and its dedicated mission to nurturing quality educators; Sri Ramakrishna College of Education remains a stepping stone for the improvement of future education in Tamil Nadu.
