Sri Sankara Bhagavathi Arts and Science College started in the year 2007 and is a DBT approved college at Kommadikottai, Tamil Nadu. The institute teaches seven courses to cater for 6 degree programmes though at an undergraduate and postgraduate level. The college has pulled a total of 721 students, 298 of them are male students while 334 are females. It has 15 full time employees out of which the faculty strength is 25 members. Most of the students in the college are local as 100% of the students are from inside the state. The institute has provided specialisation in fields like Mathematics, Information Technology, Commerce, Business Administration and English.

Sri Sankara Bhagavathi Arts and Science College has several infrastructures that will help support teaching and learning of students. The library is well stocked with a large number of books, magazines, newspapers, and journals as the library follows an open access system. It also has free access to e-library resources, within the campus and from a distance. Interested students, the college provides different facilities in the field of sports for the enthusiast. There are departmental laboratories on the campus to make sure that practical sessions are undertaken on the campus. Computer literacy is fostered by a computer centre and very sound IT facilities. The college equally provides an auditeria for events and seminars and a canteen mainly for staff and students. Transport facilities are provided so that students as well as the staff can travel easily to the respective facility.

Sri Sankara Bhagavathi Arts and Science College has, in total, 7 programmes in learning, and all are completely based on the full-time learning programmes. The institute offers a variety of 6 undergraduate and 1 postgraduate courses. The total approved intake for all these courses is three hundred and thirty six students. The courses are BA English, B.Com, B.Sc Mathematics, BBA, BCA, and so on.

The admission at Sri Sankara Bhagavathi Arts and Science College is merit based and they also give importance to reservation policy of the Government of Tamil Nadu. Fifty percent of the seats are reserved purely on merit without compromising government’s reservation policy. The other fifty percent are recruited by the management and these are also recruited based on merit. This process follows all the courses offered in the college. It does not hold and conduct its own entrance examination; the institute takes into account the marks secured in the qualifying examination for the admission process.

It was established at Kommadikottai and follows a merit-based admission procedure for all its undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It stands with the following provision of the Government of Tamil Nadu in respect of reservation in selecting the candidates. The admission process generally synchronizes with the academic year beginning in the month of June-July. Accordingly, the process will be fair and open enough to benefit deserving candidates in prosecuting their desired courses.This quota system states that, for all the programs, 50% of the seats are based purely on merit, but it has to be subject to rule-of-reservation of the Government of Tamil Nadu. The remaining 50% of seats shall be filled by Management but based on merit, which generally ensures a balance between government-mandated reservations and management discretion, with a firm focus on academic merit.

Application Process

The application procedure for Sri Sankara Bhagavathi Arts and Science College, Kommadikottai, is strictly simplified and accessible to all eligible candidates applications. Here is the step-by-step application process:

1. Get the application form: The candidates interested in applying can take the application form either from the college office or from the official college website

2. Fill the application form: All necessary details about the application form need to be filled in accurately while making sure that information is valid and current. 

3. Attach other required documents: Those must also be attached with a filled application form by the candidates:

  • The photocopies of marks obtained in the qualifying examination (10 + 2 for undergraduate courses, Bachelor's degree for postgraduate courses)
  • Transfer Certificate from the last institution attended
  • Conduct Certificate
  • Community Certificate (for candidates applying under reservation category)
  • Any other applicable certificates/documents as specified by the college.

 4. Submission of application: As and when the application is complete, it is submitted along with the enclosed required documents both in the office of the college. Make sure that the application is submitted before the last date specified by the college.

5. Merit list preparation: A merit list will be prepared in the college on the basis of marks scored in the qualifying exam, taking into account the reservation policies of Tamil Nadu Government.

6. The selection process: For the government (50% of seats), selection is confined to merit and as per reservation rules. For the remaining 50% of seats, the management of the college will select candidates on merit.  

7. Admission Confirmation: The names of the selected students shall be made available through the college website or directly, and they shall have to confirm their admission by the payment of fees and submission of original documents within a given period.

8. Orientation and Course Commencement: Students admitted to various courses will be invited for an orientation program, and thereafter, the classes will start as per the academic calendar.

Degree wise Admission Process

B.Sc Mathematics: An intake of 48 students is approved for the B.Sc Mathematics program. Admission is merit-based, in qualifying examination, filling 50% of the seats as per government reservation rules and 50% by management on merit.

BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications): The BCA program has an approved intake of 48 students, and it works on the same admission system as other undergraduate programs whereby 50% of seats are allocated to the government quota and 50% to the management quota.

B.Sc Information Technology: This program also has an approved intake of 48 students. The admission procedure is identical to other undergraduate courses in sense of merit and reservation policies.

B.Com (Bachelor of Commerce): The B.Com program allows a reasonable catchment of 64 students. The admissions procedure is consistent with other undergraduate courses in terms of balancing merit with reservation policies.

BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration): The BBA program has a permissible intake of 64 students and uses the standard admission processes employed by the college in ensuring merit-based selection with the framework of reservation policies.

BA English: The BA English program has an approved intake of 64 students. The admission process is consistent with other undergraduate courses in terms of merit and further tied to the reservation policies.

M.Com (Master of Commerce): This postgraduate program has 30 sanctioned capacities for students. The M.Com admission procedure is similar to undergraduate courses regarding the filling of 50% seats on the basis of government reservation rules and 50% by management based on merit.
