St. Joseph's Training College, Kottayam, is one of the prominent teacher training colleges in Kerala, India. The college offers both undergraduate and postgraduate educational courses such as B.Ed. and M.Ed. Programs are planned at St. Joseph's Training College as a process towards selection of qualified candidates for the various teacher training programs. The admission process devised by the college is guided by the appropriate order of the Government of Kerala and the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The NAAC accreditates the institution for maintaining high standards of quality in preparing would-be teachers. For admissions to B.Ed. course, a Centralized Allotment for Admission is opened by the Government of Kerala.
Admission is provided based on the marks received by candidates from their qualifying examination, which is usually their bachelor's degree in any discipline. Even for the M.Ed. course, entrance test is conducted for all the students that apply irrespective of whether they are applying through the open or management quota. On one hand, the academic year normally starts at St. Joseph's Training College along with the university calendar. Admission Process for Different Degrees
B.Ed. (Bachelor of Education): The B.Ed. program at St. Joseph's Training College, Kottayam, has a sanctioned strength of 50 students. The admission process into this undergraduate course is mainly on a centralized allotment system, conducted by the Government of Kerala. Selection is based on qualifying examination marks, and most often, the qualifying examination is bachelor's in any field of study. A merit list is prepared by the government for fair selection.
It is important to note that 15% of total seats (around 7-8 seats) are reserved as management quota. These seats are filled directly by the college management, providing alternative means of admission to some candidates.
M.Ed. (Master of Education): The M.Ed. program at St. Joseph's Training College has also received approval for a student intake of 50 students. However, unlike the B.Ed. program, admission into M.Ed. requires that candidates appear for the entrance examination, which is obligatory for all applicants trying to gain entry either through the open quota or management quota.
The M.Ed. entrance examination is aimed at measuring the candidates' knowledge and aptitude for advanced studies in education. It has a significant weight in the selection process and thus ensures the entry of candidates possessing all the right skills and knowledge.
