St Mary's College, Kottayam Admission Process

The diocesi of the college is affiliated to the university of Manarcadu in Kottayam, Kerala, thus making St. Mary's College Kottayam an unaffiliated college. It also offers several undergraduate and postgraduate courses in varied disciplines. The processes of admission at St Mary's College are designed to be inclusive and merit-based so that only the most qualified candidates are admitted into any given program.

This admission process will usually start after announcing the results of higher secondary with due transparency. For undergraduate courses, one of the eligibility criteria would normally require candidates to have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board. Course-specific requirements may be needed, and for master's programs, candidates are required to have graduated in the specified subjects from a recognized college/university.

Degree-wise Admission Process

B.Sc. Programs: Those offered B.Sc. courses at St Mary's College include Zoology, Chemistry, and Physics. As for B.Sc. Zoology and  B.Sc. Chemistry programs, 36 students are accepted for each, while B.Sc. Physics can accommodate a maximum of 24 candidates. It was kept scientific businesses in mind during which admission to the courses was entirely based on the score attained by a candidate in the qualifying examination, that is, 10+2.

B.Com Program: The college has a B.Com degree program with computer applications, admitting 32 learners. Students who have completed their 10+2 levels in commerce or its equivalent are free to apply. Selection is primarily made on the merit of marks secured in the qualifying examination.

BA Programs: With 24 seats each for History and English, St. Mary's College offers BA programs. Admission is done purely based on merit on marks secured in the qualifying examination and has a bias towards those who have studied relevant subjects at 10+2 level.

M.Sc Programs: Also offered are M.Sc. facilitating in Zoology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science spreading admission to 20 students in M.Sc. Zoology and 10 students in M.Sc. Chemistry. Eligibility to apply lies with those who have completed their Bachelor's degree in only the relevant science discipline. Graduation marks may be taken into consideration for admission and, in rare cases, entrance exam/interview.

M.Com Program: The M.Com program (Financial Management) admits 30 students. Admission is open for graduates of B.Com or equivalent degree. The selection will be based on the total marks obtained during graduation and any other criteria as specified by the college.

MA Program: St. Mary's College offers an MA in English with an intake of 15 seats. Qualified candidates for the position must have a bachelor's degree in English or any other relevant subject. Admission would be based, inter-alia, on marks obtained in graduation, and, in some instances, on the basis of entrance tests or interviews.
