St. Teresa’s Teacher Training Institute is the sole standalone institution in Kottayam, Kerala that is geared towards offering the future of Education. Originally founded in 1919, this highly regarded school has been preparing potential educators for more than ninety years. Located in modest 5 acre land, the institute is exclusively for the female students to promote women education in Kerala. With National Council for Teacher Education ( NCTE ) recognition, St . Teresa’s continues to provide quality education for teachers in training.

St. Teresa’s Teacher Training Institute has variety of facilities that can improve the learning process of the students studying at the given institute. A good library is an accumulation of knowledge, besides, necessary infrastructure includes sport facilities for healthy living and team work. It holds different events and seminars, organising committee for the perception of intellectual and cultural events. Departmental laboratories are important for the student teacher since they get practical session that prepares them for teaching. This institute also adapts the welfare of their students where there is a health centre provide first aid. St. Teresa's Teacher Training Institute currently offers one primary course, the Diploma in Elementary Education or D.El.Ed, for the prospective elementary school teachers. This programme is offered as a full-time programme and will take the student two years to complete and will allow him or her teach in the elementary level. The institute has the approved capacities of 50 students for this course, which shows that the institute still intends to deliver quality education, by offering limited number of intakes and seats. Having 43 students including three faculty members, the institute guarantees close attention and individual care for all potential teachers.

Like all colleges across the state of Kerala, the admission criteria of St. Teresa’s Teacher Training Institute involves merit based selection. The qualifying test results form the basis of the selection process and the test commonly used here is the higher secondary (10 + 2) or its equivalent. Self-financed students sometimes take an entrance examination or other selective admission procedure as well.
