St. Xavier’s College of Education was founded in 1950 in Tirunelveli is an autonomous institution relentlessly working for the cause of education. Established in 1987, this college is co-educational and is situated in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu and has an area of 3.72 acres The college offers a numbers of programmes in education. Affiliated to the university of Calcutta and recognised by the national assessment and accreditation council (NAAC) & approved by the national council for teacher education (NCTE) St. Xavier’s, over these seven successful decades has carved a niche for its self. Presently the college teaches six programmes spread across four degree levels with total students’ enrolment of 207 and nine members of the faculty business providing sufficient capacity for delivery of a niche programme with individual focus.
St. Xavier’s College of Education has its fair share of resources that are used to complement the experience of the college students. The institution has a modern library occupying two floors with the space of 5942 sq. ft. They include 21,968 books, of which 1,382 belongs to the book bank and 43 national and international journals subscribed to by the institution for academic use. In facilitating the digital library segment the college provides UGC N-List consortium giving 96000 e-books and approximately two thousand online Journals are available to the students being updated with the current happenings of their stream. In addition to the classes, the college facilities include laboratories, an auditorium, a canteen, playground with necessary sports facilities, and separate hostels for boys and girls.
For its part, St. Xavier’s College of Education provides course selection in the different levels of education study. The institution offer 6 full time courses, two part time courses and no online courses. The development also offers the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programmes with a capacity of one hundred while the Master of Education (M.Ed) has a capacity of fifty. For same there are M.Phil and Ph.D programmes in Education in full time as well as in part time for those who are into research. For all the courses offered the approved intake is 207 students, in effort to ensure the college provides quality education through regulation of class sizes.
