Sushila Rai Mahila Mahavidyalaya, an affiliated college was established in the year 2007 at Sarai Mohan, Azamgarh District of Uttar Pradesh. This women institution is recognised from National Council for Teacher Education(NCTE) making it’s emphasis on quality education. The college has enrolled three undergraduate programmes having an enrollment strength of 424 and faculty strength of 8. Unfortunately, current rankings are limited; however, it is clear that it offers education in arts, sciences and teacher training, and serves the purpose of a women’s college in the region.
Sushila Rai Mahila Mahavidyalaya has a diverse facility that it deems are fit to improve the education of the students that attend the college. A good library that is equipped with a reading hall has a reading section area with various books, magazines, and journal from different disciplines. The sports department ensures that all students get adequate indoor as well as outdoor sports facilities which include a sports officer overseeing the practice among students. An auditorium also has a capacity to host events/ seminars/ event and therefore enhances the lively hood on the campus. The college also has special tariffs for various subjects and has developed necessary production facilities in addition to subjecting its IT facilities to constant updates to provide students with practical learning means and to conform to the latter’s technological updates.
Sushila Rai Mahila Mahavidyalaya offers three full-time programmes: There are Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc), and there is Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed). The PG programme D.El.Ed. intake has been approved for 50 seats while the intakes for the programmes BA and B.Sc are unclear. The teaching-learning processes are contained within the traditional duration of each coursework; thus while BA and B.Sc take three years, D.El.Ed takes two years. These main programmes exemplify the mission and vision of the college to offer quality courses in arts, sciences and teacher training.
The admission procedure that students have to follow at this college differs depending on the course. For D.El.Ed, admission is given on merit, depending on the marks in the qualifying /entrance test as per government notification. Regarding the admission process of the BA and B.Sc programmes, these are not very clear, however, since special admission procedures are given, that of BA and B.Sc should also be merit-based. Though there is no information available in regard to scholarship, and the name and fame alumni’s but the college itself has played a pivotal role for women education in Azamgarh.
