SVM Ayurvedic Medical College and Research Centre, Bagalkot, was established in the year 1992 and is one of the leading Ayurvedic College in Karnataka. Situated at Ilkal, Karnataka this affiliated college is recognised by the Central Council for Indian Medicine (CCIM). Located on a 6 acre campus, the institute has 7 courses across 3 different degree programmes with an enrolment of 110 students. It has a faculty strength of forty-five, a favourable students teacher ration is thus maintained in the college. SVM Ayurvedic Medical College also offers range of BAMS and postgraduate courses related to Ayurvedic medical with a speciality that makes it notable for developing the area of ayurvedic medical education with its infrastructure.
SVM Ayurvedic Medical College and Research Centre has put in place various amenities modeled to improve the performance as well as the character of persons in the facility. At present, the college library has built up over 8,100 volumes of books on both Ayurveda system of medicines and modern perspective. Along with proper health equipment, a well-equipped first aid unit helps catering to the health needs of the campus. For educational purposes, the institution provides a computer and internet facility to help the students update with the latest advancement in the field of Ayurveda.
Modern seminar hall with teaching aids makes communication during learning sessions more effective. For the physical fitness, the college offers sports and gymnasium to the students. This is a separate hostel for boys and girls to maintain cleanliness for out-station students and so they have comfortable living conditions. There is a canteen for the students, guest rooms and waiting areas for visitors which makes the campus an all round educational environment.
There are seven courses offered in the institution all of which are full time. Its main course is the BAMS, with an approved number of 60 students intake for the programme for each course year. Further, the college has six Master’s degree programmes for which five students are admitted for each programme of specialisation in Ayurvedic medicine. They are MD Kayachikitsa, MD Panchakarma, MS Prasuti Tantra and Stri Roga, MS Shalakya Tantra, MD Ayurved Samhita and MS Shalya Tantra. The total number of students enrolled in every course offered by the institute is 110 students as a measure to improve quality education through lamitating large number of students in class.

SVM Ayurvedic Medical College and Research Centre has its main admission index based on national level entrance examinations. NEET UG scores however play a critical role in determining admission for the BAMS programme. The postgraduate entrance is the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduate (NEET PG). These examinations make certain that students accepted by the college have adequate background in science and have the passion to study Ayurveda. The institute follows the admission schedule set by these national examination that are usually administered once every year.
