Swami Nithyananda Polytechnic College based at Kanhangad is one of the oldest Polytechnic colleges in Kerala hardly 12 KM away from Kasaragod town which was established in 1966. This affiliated college located on a large campus of 15.04 acres has been producing technical talent for more than fifty years. The college offers a concentrated learning environment, with a total students enrollment of 558 and 12 members in faculty. Currently the institute offers four diploma courses across different engineering fields aimed at fulfilling the needs of the students pursuing technical education in the region.

An important necessity in any college is to facilitate provision of adequate and comprehensive learning facilities that would complement the learning process of the students. A key component of scholarly development, the library is a computerized system with Koha open source ILS, and consists of 18,796 books, and national/international journal-frequented documents. Swami Nithyananda Polytechnic College runs four regular diploma courses of three years duration each. Such courses aims to prepare students for practical skills and theoretical understanding of their chosen areas of specialization. The total number of students in all courses is 558 and this is another sign of the institute’s policy of prescribing the most appropriate student teacher ratio in the classroom. Even as over time specific figures cannot be provided for the latest year, the progression can be assumed, given the age of the college and the types of technicians and engineers produced.

Admission procedure in Swami Nithyananda Polytechnic College very much follows the guidelines laid for other Polytechnic colleges within the state of Kerala. However, unlike some other states in India, Kerala does not have an entrance examination for students desiring to enter polytechnics. However, it is important to note that, he or she, is admitted based on their performance in 10th and 12th board examination.
