The Taranath Government Ayurvedic Medical College at Bellary was founded in 1976 for imparting Ayurvedic education for students belonging to the Karnataka state in India. This affiliated college is placed at Dr. Rajkumar Road, Ballari, and has the CCIM (Central Council for Indian Medicine) affiliation. Located on 8 acres of land, the college offers a variety of Ayurvedic courses of study for the 290 students it is currently admitting. Currently, the institution has a faculty of 29 highly qualified and experienced professionals to train the students for the specialisation in Ayurveda. The college provides 6 courses at 2 different study levels, focuses on different aspects of Ayurveda, and deals with undergraduate as well as postgraduate students.
Taranath Government Ayurvedic Medical College offers the students a number of facilities in order to support their learning aimed at improving their well-being. A modern library with stocks of all books in all subjects and references forms an excellent basis for academic study. Pride of any institution, the departmental laboratories are an important resource to get practical experience necessary for the study of Ayurveda. For this purpose, the college provides students with recreational and exercise amenities such as sports and a gym.
The campus also has different hostel facilities for both boys and girls that host outstation students in comfort. It has a canteen for staff and students to provide them with the food they require, and M, which gives them a venue for any event or seminar. For the current educational needs, the college has IT facilities, and there is a health centre with first aid facilities available. This active alumni association involves many activities like networking as well as student issues, which enhance the mobility of the campus.
A total of six full-time courses are offered in Taranath Government Ayurvedic Medical College, out of which some are undergraduate and some postgraduate programmes. The flagship undergraduate programme is the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), which the college offers and has a strength of 40. At the postgraduate level, the college provides various MD courses in the specialised area of Ayurveda. The number of total students taking all courses is 290, which is a confirmation of the objective of the institution in offering quality education with reasonable class sizes.

Taranath Government Ayurvedic Medical College follows the admission procedure on the basis of a national-level entrance test. While entry into the BAMS programme requires the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions. After graduation, students seek lateral entries to MD programmes and for that, they have to appear for the All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test known as AIAPGET. The above standardised tests help filter the students so that the college enrols students who have a sound understanding of the sciences and a passion for Ayurvedic medicine. The college follows the schedules of these national-level examinations, though these are usually held annually.
