It is established in 1989 as a constituent college of Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, Maharashtra. As a co-educational institution, the school works towards spreading knowledge in public health and health sciences. Spread over a sprawling campus of 411 acres, the school offers varied specialised programs in response to the growing demand for skilled professionals in the health sector. The school has a faculty strength of 5 members, and it provides students interested in pursuing a career in public health and related areas with a focused learning environment.

At the training levels, the students are afforded well-equipped computer laboratories in epidemiology and biostatistics; there are also research laboratories for biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, and nutrition. The campus boasts of facilities such as event and seminar auditoriums, libraries that stock well-represented materials, sports facilities to strike a balance between study and other activities of life. For lodging purposes, there is strictly merit-based assignment between boys' and girls' hostels. There is a health center with primary health facility care for the students.

Academic programs of the School of Public Health and Health Sciences The school offers four full-time programs spread out over three degree levels. These are two master's level programs: MPH and M.Sc. in Health Sciences, and two doctoral degree programs. Ph.D. in Health Sciences and Ph.D. in Public Health. Each program endeavours to equip the students with the knowledge and skills with which to deal with the complex health issues of today. Research and practical application, in particular, are manifested in the course structures that provide theoretical knowledge together with hands-on experience in all courses offered.
