Training Ship Chanakya is a B.Tech marine engineering and marine nautical training ship that was established in 2008 in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. This specialised institution affiliated with the Indian Maritime University to produce quality human resources for the maritime industry. Spread across a 40-acre plot, Training Ship Chanakya provides sound base of theoretical and practical concepts. The institute can accommodate 531 numbers of students intakes throughout the year and has 23 faculties making the student faculty ratio maintaining an optimum level that the faculty pays individual attention to every student offering quality education. The institute offers two programmes: B.Sc Nautical Science and Diploma in Nautical Science, both are full time courses needed for the alteration of the marine industry.
According to the current findings Training Ship Chanakya possesses various facilities that enhance education and learning process. Amidst the academic resources is a rich library and contains internet amenities hence enabling the students to access information from all over the world. There is an Olympic size swimming pool and the gymnasium has equipments which meet modern requirements for physical fitness and recreation. This institute boast off basic science lab to advanced microprocessor lab for practical sessions in various sciences. Training Ship Chanakya also pays considerable attention in the student amenities & facilities; basic amenities facilities of a doctor on the Ship, general medical checkup camps & in emergency cases liaison with the major nearby hospitals.
Training Ship Chanakya run two specialised maritime courses all of which are full time programme. The B.Sc Nautical Science is a three-year degree course with an intake capacity of 185 students, the Diploma in Nautical Science is one-year course with a concession of 80 students. These programmes are established with much planning and give students all encompassing education on different fields of nautical sciences for tailor made careers in the maritime business. The total approved intake for both the courses is 265 students keeping in mind the policy of institute to provide quality education through restricted number of students per section.
