Vaidh Shankar Lal Memorial College of Education was commenced in the year of 2006, which is an affiliated college situated in Chandi, Tehsil Kasauli, Solan district of H.P. The institute is recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education , New Delhi and conducts three full time educational courses. Located in a campus area of 1.05 acres, the college offers total student enrollment of 180 and has a faculty member of 20. It came into existence to enroll both male and female students offering quality education in area of teacher training. The college also runs post graduate courses in educational discipline namely, B.El.Ed, M.El.Ed and D.El.Ed for trainee teachers.

This college has some of the facilities halls that facilitate the learning process of its students right from the college. Girls and boys are provided with different hostels within the campus and the general facilities give them an appropriate setting for study and other related activities. There is well equipped library center Which consists of a large number of books and journals related to text books and other reference books and research journals. It’s health-wise equipped with a gymnasium and adequate playground for outdoor activities such as volleyball, badminton, and even kabaddi among others. For the purpose of addressing requirements of the contemporary system of education, the institute has developed an ICT resource center containing the projector, camera, and other multimedia. Other facilities are a health centre having first aid facilities, a cafetaria, an athletic/ auditorium for conducting conferences and seminars, Internet services in the campus.

There are three full time courses that are offered at Vaidh Shankar Lal Memorial College of Education. These programs are available at different levels of teacher training including elementary, to higher education. The college initiates 180 students for all the courses offered in the college. The B.Ed program which is at the core of the college has the highest number of seats in the college at 100. Next comes the M. Ed and D. El. Ed programmes for which the college has a strength of 50 students each. All these courses can be pursued over a period of two years and encompasses all that has to do with training the young ones.

Admission to the Vaidh Shankar Lal Memorial College of Education is therefore mainly given through entrance exams. Thus, for the B.Ed and D.El.Ed programs only entrance tests particular to the courses are given for admissions purposes. The M.Ed also has this pattern with the course being offered based on Common Entrance Test (CET). These entrance exams are developed in such a manner to check the ability and the knowledge of the candidates related to education. The entrance based system of admission means that only students with the necessary drive and ability are admitted to the college. Though, detailed information on scholarship offered is not provided, but college’s focus on education is apparent as there is a proper admission process and the college caters for all type of courses. It also aids in increasing the academic standard in the students and the faculty so that all the students going out in teaching and educational administration will be prepared for the job.
