Vaidyaratnam P S Varier Ayurveda College, Kottakkal, founded in 1917, is one of the premier institutions for Ayurved Education. This affiliated college is situated in Edarikode, Malappuram district of Kerala, and it covers total 23.19 acre of land. Being CCIM recognised institution, it has a huge list of courses and programmes associated with Ayurvedic medical science. These are some of the institutes that make up the current traditional medical learning institutions which enroll students who total 347 for affiliation with a faculty of 40. The college has 12 courses in line with three degrees ranges that provide educational programmes in different aspects of ayurveda to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Vaidyaratnam P S Varier Ayurveda College has instituted so many facilities that can complement the learning of the students in the college. The Central Ayurveda Library poses highest collection of Ayurvedic texts consisting of 26506 books, 700 reference books and 25 journals along with some of the most elusive books in Ayurveda. The library has gone fully digital with an intranet provision of student and faculty services. The college has all departmental laboratory facilities required for student practical demonstrations of facts learnt in class. An auditorium for occasions and seminars, canteen for snacks, and gym and playing fields for exercises also form part of the school facility. For this purpose, the college has facilities for both male and female hostellers to make sure that students are well accommodated.

Established in 2002, Vaidyaratnam P S Varier Ayurveda College provides complete course stream in the field of Ayurvedic system. The institute offered twelve full time programmes, undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma. The largest course offered is Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery for which the institution offers 63 places. The college also provides different MD courses in the particular branches of Ayurveda like Manovigyan Avum Manas Roga, Agadatantra, Swasthavritha, Dravyadunavignan, Panchakarma, Salyatantra and Samhitha Sidhantha and Sanskrit. In addition, the college offers Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programmes in Manovigyan Avum Manasroga, Dravyagunavijnan, Panchakarma, Swasthavritha. The cumulated capacity as approved for all the courses put together is 347.

Vaidyaratnam P S Varier Ayurveda College mainly follows the national level entrance examinations for providing admissions to the students. The programme of BAMS has the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) for admission. For admission to MD’s and other postgraduate course admission, students have to appear in All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test known as AIAPGET. For the undergraduate course, the college does accept NEET scores while for graduate courses, the college accepts NEET PG scores. This keeps the college in a competitive position of attracting good students within the nation. In this respect, the institute can be proud of the high level of Ayurvedic education and the strict admission procedure and the offered courses, which prepare its students for successful working activity.
