Vidya Bhawan Rural Institute is in Udaipur which was set up in 1956 and is a premier institute for higher learning in Rajasthan. This affiliated college is located in Syphon Chauraha on Badgaon Road and covers an area of land of about 60 acres. The institute spread in total area of 70 acres has a total student enrolment of 1272 and faculty strength of 32 and provides 20 varied courses in 8 degree programmes. The institute boasts about offering sound education in significant areas such as Arts, Commerce, Science, and managerial sciences to meet every student’s educational needs from the urban and rural areas.

Vidya Bhawan Rural Institute has a variety of ultramodern equipment with a view of improving the learning of the students of the institute. A major component of any academic resource is a library ranging over 44000 books across different disciplines including social science & humanities, science and commerce & management. There is also special sections for reading room and book bank; students are allowed to borrow text-books for the whole academic term for a token fee. Sports facilities both indoor and outdoor are provided for by the college. Two vast playfields establish different sorts of games such as football, hockey, and a large field for cricket. In addition, there are kalan and badminton field for kabbadi and volley ball respectively. The indoor games facilities include facilities for table tennis, carom and chess.

Vidya Bhawan Rural Institute provides a large number of courses, including undergraduate and postgraduate ones. It offer 20 courses, 13 are full time course such as Arts, Science, Commerce & Computer Application courses etc. The total admission figure in all courses combined is 1,272, which shows that the institute believes in knowledge delivery to a large number of students. The institute also has post graduate courses in various streams like Masters in Hindi literature, English Literature, Economics, Political Science, Rural Sociology, Masters as well as M.Sc in Mathematics, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry. For research oriented students, the institute offers PhD in Sociology, Botany, Zoology, Chemistry and Political Science. 

The admission policy in Vidya Bhawan Rural Institute states that they admit students with equity and the students should possess merit. For level five and level six courses such as, BA, B.Com, BCA and BBA the institute functions in accordance with the rules and regulations of the state government. When there are available vacancies after the first round of admission, students who have scored bare passes in their qualifying exams are offered the seats. The admission to the Ph.D. programmes is through university entrance test and personal interview conducted by the concerned departments.
