Vidya Vikas Polytechnic Mysore was established in the year 1991 at Mysore, the cultural capital of Karnataka state. Situated in a large area of 5.38 acres, this affiliated college has been sending young engineers to the world for the last thirty- two years. AICTE approved institute, it has a number of diploma courses in different fields of engineering. This college is taking a total 265 students in all classes and has a teacher to student’s ration of 19:1.

Vidya Vikas Polytechnic boasts of modern facilities to support various development sectors of the students that are in the institute. The campus is well endowed with a resourceful library, stocked with print and electronic resources national and international journals. Technophiles will appreciate the Computer department with state-of-art lab that includes 103 computers complemented by a campus wide LAN backed by 10 GBPS fiber-optic link. Sporty people will have ample opportunity to exercise and play games and those interested in art and culture will find places allowed for such in the architecture. The institute also given equal importance to student affairs with regards to hostels focusing on the availability of separated hostels for boys and girls to provide comfortable accommodation to out station students. On the same note, snacks and beverages are availed within the compound in a cafeteria zone which acts also as a social gathering place and first aid case through the health center endowed with first aid facilities for students’ emergencies. The college offers convenient means of transport to and from school for all the students through adequate provision of transport facilities.

In all, Vidya Vikas Polytechnic provides its students five full time diploma courses, which are spread over three years. These programmes comprise of major engineering disciplines and are designed to meet interests and market needs. These are Diploma in Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Computer science and Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering. Each of the programmes approved for intake has 54 available places which cumulatively gives the university 270 places for all its courses. Such wide offering of programmes enables the students to select a degree programme that would enable them enrol in the niche market they desire or meet the demands of the growing market.

Vidya Vikas Polytechnic has very simple admission procedure which makes it easier for students to enroll in this institute. Though there are no structured details of admission process given, as a general rule it is seen that for getting admission to polytechnic institutes, candidates are recruited on the basis of performance of some specific qualifying examination or board examination trials.
