Upcoming trends
While design emerges from creative minds, trends emerge from the context of their time. The world was recovering from a pandemic last year, and design trends favoured comfortable nostalgic feelings and colourful expressions. Much of that optimism remains for 2023, but it has been strained by this year's global inflation. Designers respond to these Conditions in a variety of ways. People are excited and curious about what's to come because technology inspires them to explore unknown things.
Mysticism: Mysticism in design includes iconography related to astrology and divination. Popular symbolism, such as zodiac signs, all-seeing eyes, lotus flowers, and sacred geometry, is heavily used in this trend. These symbols, like talismans of old, infuse the natural and celestial worlds with occult and deeper meanings.
Retro Line Art: Designers use minimal line art to create humorous and fun illustrations. This is a retro style that evokes childhood memories of drawing with felt-tip markers. The line art's simplicity lends itself to a cartoonish style, such as thick outlines and rubber hose limbs, making the trend a natural fit for more lighthearted projects.
Folk Botanical: Folk botanical patterns are a common element in graphic design, serving as backgrounds or framing content. And nature is a popular pattern subject, as combinations of leaves, fruits, and vines create compositions as lively as a forest.
