Literature course helps the students facilitate ideas of the cultural values, attitudes and ideas of culture and society. Some of the subjects would even teach them about the worldwide customs, values and traditions that have been going on. Bachelor in Literature is pursued in English, Hindi and a few other languages. Students have the freedom to choose in which language they would like to do the course.
The students would study about poetry & prose, drama & philosophy, history of a particular language, how Literature has been advancing since the past, the influencers of Literature and the literary devices used.
For Undergraduates
The students should have scored at least 50% marks in class 12th examination or any other competitive examination.
They should also have studied the language in which they want to the bachelor's degree.
For Postgraduates
The students who have studied BA in Literature are eligible for this course.
They should have scored minimum 50% marks for it.
For PhD
The students should have achieved a minimum of 50% marks in the postgraduate course.
Students who are in the research phase of their PhD course are also eligible for this admission.
Entrance Exams for Literature
For bachelor course -
Students do not have to appear for any competitive examination to get an admission into the colleges for this field.
The admission is solely based on the class 12th marks they have secured.
Though this would be of a greater challenge as students will have to score well in class 12th examination as an overall percentage which matters along with the required language.
For master course and doctorate course –
The following exams are conducted –
EFLU Entrance Exam – English and Foreign Language University Entrance Examination is a university-level exam. It grants admission into the PG and doctorate courses. This exam is conducted online for 2 hours. There are 100 objective type questions.
JNUEE (Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Examination) - This is a national level entrance examination. It is 3 hours long and is conducted offline. 100-150 questions of varying natures are asked based on the course with no negative marking. This exam grants admission into the PG and doctorate courses in Literature.
The field of Literature is growing one as new talent comes in every year with wonderful skills of creative writing and whatnot. They have the potential to expand in this field by going for further studies, along with completing their passion.
