What is Mineral Engineering?
Mineral engineering deals with the science of extracting and processing essential natural minerals from a naturally occurring environment. This discipline involves the theory, practical, science, and technology behind extracting and processing minerals. Mineral engineering also involves the treatment of industrial and domestic waste, contaminated lands, etc. Mineral engineering graduates also plan mines and all their facilities such as ventilation and the most efficient routes and techniques.
Mineral engineering (ME) has become a very sought after profession. While it is more of a niche branch of engineering, Mineral Engineering graduates are important for our very existence. We rely on minerals as a core part of our lives. From the cement we walk on to the glass that we drink water in, all of it is based on mineral and mining practices. Due to this vast impact that minerals have on our lives, their proper development and extraction have become very important. Read on to know in detail about the Mineral Engineering course, eligibility criteria required, colleges offering it, scope, career, and more.

Both courses are very similar in terms of study and future professions. However, mining engineering is a broader concept, whereas mineral engineering is considered a branch under mining engineering, which is mainly concerned with safe extraction and processing of minerals.
Dear Aspirants,
I suggest you to that engineering in which you are interested and can excel into which. Since IIT are of National importance you can choose any of them based on your rank and choices. But I like you to suggest that you should choose ISM Dhanbad over IIT Triputi. As ISM Dhanbad established in 1926 and offers 16 courses. While IIT Triputi is new IIT established in 2015. Also you can Mineral engineering in ISM Dhanbad and prepare for second year branch upgrade of your choice.
Best Of Luck
Hello rishi,
The same deliemma was there for my friend last year. In first round of JEE counselling he got Electrical at IIT Bhilai .If he had opted to float it was sure that he would get Engineering Physics at IIT Dhanbad .After much thinking he opted for floating and got engineering physics at Dhanbad. After waiting till last round he got Electronics and Instrumentation at Dhanbad. Now he never regret his decision.
He opted to go with float because ISM is 100 times better than IIT Bhilai. ISM has vast alumni network as established in 1926. In MHRD ranking it is above IIT BHU, Gandhinagar etc. Then why give IIT Bhilai a preference. And as far as branch is considered engineering physics will be one of the most sought branch in coming years.
hope it helps you.
If you still have any issue fell free to comment.
If you are from general category, then previous year cutoff for mineral engineeringg at ISM dhanbad is 623. So, you will not get this college with this score.
As per your score and previous year cutoff, the colleges you get in first round are:-
IIT Kanpur Material Science
IIT Patna Nano Science & Technology
