Hi,
Yes, you are eligible to join merchant navy.
Eligibility Criteria -
-Eligibility for joining merchant navy is finishing class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
-Candidates have to be unmarried Indian citizens (male or female).
-Normal vision is required but glasses up to plus or minus 2.5 may be allowed.
-Admission is through an entrance followed by a screening test and a main written examination.
-After clearing the test, there is an interview and a medical test.
-You also need to complete a ship-training course prior to the employment. The course is generally short-term where the candidates are taught basic security concerns of voyaging.
The minimum eligibility criteria for getting admission either in the colleges of Indian Maritime University or in the college runs by the shipping companies you need to have minimum of 60% in PCM along with that you should have minimum of 50% in English.
But this condition is applicable for Deck Department and Engine Department officers rank courses like DNS, B.Sc in Nautical Science or B.Tech in Naval Architecture or B.Tech in Marine Engineering.
If you want to join as GP Rating or Saloon department then this condition is not applicable. But doing these courses you won't join as officer cadre.
There are 4 streams ( Deck Cadet , Trainee Marine Engineer or Engine Cadet, GP Rating & Saloon Rating) for you to make it in Merchant Navy. Its PCM which helps. You can join only 2 streams with 50% in PCM.
Hope this will help you.
Good luck.

Sorry but IMU CET question papers aren't available anywhere, not even on their official website. Some sample papers are sold in the market too, but they aren't worthy. Also some sites will claim to have it but they'll ask for a payment.
To get the idea about question paper it's better to go to IMU’s official website and try a mock paper. Give mock tests, it'll help you in the revision and will boost up your knowledge. Also, try to solve previous year questions. Prepare with NCERT. Focus on the syllabus and try to practice a lot. Put your 100% effort and just keep studying !
Good luck for your bright future !!
Hi aspirant,
IMU and participating colleges do not allow candidates to pursue diploma in nautical science unless they are sponsored candidate. So you need to get sponsored at first. Some of the top companies which offer sponsorships to marine graduates are as follows:
Fleet Management, MSC, Nortrans, Scorpio Marine Management, Tolani Shipping, TORM, V-Ships, Wilhelmsen Ship Management.
There is a second option that you can pursue either BTech in marine engineering or Bsc in nautical sciences to be a merchant navy officer.
Hope it helps!!
