hello. I am in grade 11. currently Im going to write C.E.T. and i want to go for JEE too to get into astronomy. I was wondering the rank or the marks I would need in JEE to get into an astronomy field, or a physics field.
-
JEE Focus: The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) focuses on engineering and technology entrance exams. There's no direct astronomy program through JEE.
-
Path to Astronomy: However, a strong foundation in Physics and Mathematics, tested extensively in JEE, is crucial for pursuing astronomy. Scoring well in JEE can get you into good colleges for Physics (BSc or BS) programs, which are the stepping stones for an astronomy career.
JEE has two levels: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Scoring well in both is important for prestigious institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
EE has two levels: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Scoring well in both is important for prestigious institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
After scoring well in JEE Main, you can target colleges offering a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Physics. After a strong BSc Physics degree, you can pursue a Master of Science (MSc) in Astrophysics, which directly deals with astronomy and space sciences.
It's difficult to predict exact marks or ranks for astronomy because there's no direct astronomy program through JEE. However, aiming for a good rank in JEE Main (ideally within the top few thousand) increases your chances of getting into a top-ranked physics program at a reputed college.

I hope it helps!
i am in class 10 and deeply passionate about space and always wanted to be an astronomer , what all things Ill need to do to become an astronomer and how much will i be paid if living outside India
Hello,
To become an astronomer, focus on excelling in physics and mathematics in high school. Pursue a bachelor's degree in physics, astronomy, or a related field, followed by a master's and Ph.D. in astronomy or astrophysics. Gain research experience and internships. Astronomers abroad can earn between $60,000 to $120,000 annually, depending on experience and location. Top institutions like NASA or ESA offer higher salaries and opportunities.
Hope this helps you,
Thank you
Question : Directions: Two Statements are given followed by two conclusions numbered I and II. Assuming the statements to be true, even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the conclusions logically follow(s) from the statements.
Statements:
No astronomer is tall.
Some tall are handsome.
Conclusions:
I. Some astronomers are handsome.
II. No tall is an astronomer.
Option 1: Only conclusion II follows.
Option 2: Neither conclusion I nor II follow.
Option 3: Only conclusion I follows.
Option 4: Both conclusions I and II follow.
Correct Answer: Only conclusion II follows.
Solution : The possible Venn diagram for the given statements is as follows –
Let's analyse the conclusions -
Conclusions (I): Some astronomers are handsome – From the above diagram, it is clear that there is no relation between astronomers and handsome. So, this conclusion does not follow.
Conclusions (II): No tall is an astronomer – From the above diagram, we can see that the relation of no is given between astronomer and tall. So, this conclusion follows.
So, the only conclusion I follows. Hence, the first option is correct.
To become an astronomer, what am I supposed to go for after 12th. Bsc in astronomy or bsc in physics?
The course of BSc Astronomy isn't that much popular/offered in India. If you wish to become an Astronomer, then the best way will be to go for the course of BSc Physics. After your BSc in Physics, you can appear for the IIT JAM examination, and you can join IIT Indore campus, in the course of Astronomy. Apart from this you can clear TIFR GS/JEST examination and then can go for the Inter University Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics (IUCAA). Here, you will be able to do Integrated PhD program which will provide you a better dimension to the career of Astronomy.

I hope this helps. Wish you a great eve!
I have scored 83% in 10th in Maharashtra ssc board. I want to be an astronomer in the future. but Im not sure which college should I go to

can i become astronomer after btech in engineering physics
Dear apsirant,
As per as my observation is considered most of the research astronomers have their degree in physics /astronomy or master degree in physical science mainly physics or astronomy.
To be at that level it takes around 7-8 years beyond the school education. Astronomers are normally good with computers in programming and with normal usage. They also have good mathematical knowledge.
So, you can absolutely pursue astronomy after clearing your b.tech degree with decent percentage of marks. You can opt for specialisation in astrophysics /astronomy.
1-Hi, I have five question to ask - if i have done msc in physics and then i have done phd in astronmy . so would i be a astronomer??? 2- Do isro hire astronomer . 3- Is getting in isro hard. 4-best college for astronmy in phd. 5-Is this filed bright in future.
1. If you want to do the course in Astronomy, then going for the course of MSc Astronomy after your BSc Physics will be a better choice. Now if you do a PhD in Astronomy, then also you will be called as a Astronomer.
2. ISRO, hire research fellows in Radio Astronomy sector, but recruiting Astronomer is a less often case and no records are there on the ICRB website.
3. Getting ISRO is hard, but if you go for the course of MTech in Solid State Physics or MTech in Optoelectronics after your MSc Physics (through GATE & Interview) then you will be able to get directly placed as an Scientist at ISRO directly. Apart from this for being Astronomical Researcher you can apply in IUCAA/ ISRO/National Centre for Radio Astronomy & then can join some way at ISRO, but there are no information available regarding the recruitment of Astronomer on the official website of ICRB.
4. At Masters level, only IIT Indore offers the MSc Astronomy course through IIT JAM Physics examination. Apart from this you can apply for Integrated PhD or PhD program through NET/GATE/TIFR-GS/JEST at:
- IUCAA
- TIFR MUMBAI
- NCRA
- IIT GUWAHATI

I am 12 years old and want to become an astronomer , how should I start up with my career ?
Dear student,
In order to become an astronomer you may take the following steps:
- Since you are only 12years old your main focus should be to have good understanding of mathematics initially.
- After this as you get introduced to higher level Science including physics and computer science start focusing on it.
- In class 9 and 10 th , focus on Science, and mathematics.
- In 11th opt for Science stream with physics, mathematics and computer science as key subjects since these will help you carry a career in astronomy.
- You must have a bachelor's degree in astronomy, physics or mathematics.
- You may also go for PhD in this field.
- Then you may start gaining experience and work in this field further.
