hai thanks the answer o iisc b I do need about NEST how many students appear for Nest exam how is it different from Mains and advanced does preparing for mains help for Nest the total number of seats is said to around 200 Are there any other core research centres who admit +2 student
The National Entrance Screening Test (popularly known as NEST) is an annual college entrance examination in India, conducted for admission into the National Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhubaneswar (NISER) and the Center for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai. These two institutes use NEST as a sole criterion for admission to their undergraduate programs.
As of 2018, the total intake of NISER and UM-DAE CBS is 200+2 students and 45+2 students respectively (where two seats in each college are reserved for students belonging to the state of Jammu and Kashmir).
The NEST question paper has five sections. The first section, which is compulsory for all candidates, includes general questions. The next four sections includes questions on (1) Biology, (2) Chemistry, (3) Mathematics and (4) Physics. Candidates may opt to answer any three of the four sections if they are willing to get admission in CBS, otherwise they have to answer from all the sections if they are willing to get in the merit list of NISER. All sections carry equal marks. The questions are aimed at testing the comprehension and analytic ability of the candidates. The questions are of objective type with four answers given for each question. There may only be one relatively correct answer for each question. Wrong answers are awarded negative marks .
Syllabus of jee mains and nest are to some extent same. The level of question asked in NEST involves thinking and some calculation so its one level tougher than particularly jee mains.
Though NEST can be considered a bit tougher than jee mains but JEE advance is a lot tougher than NEST so if you are preparing for JEE rigorously then you can perform well in NEST regardless of seats intake.
Just keep one thing in mind that for cracking NEST your knowledge concepts need to be very strong .
I hope this helps
I have rank obc-384 in NEST 2019 is there any chance for me in 1st counselling
Hi Hemlata,
The predicted cutoff rank for OBC is 280, this year. Lat year it was around 400 rank. But competition has increased a lot this year. You can try for 2nd counselling. Do not lose hope. If you are so passionate about it, you can also go for a break year.
All The Best.
I have a general rank of 882 in nest 2019 . Is there any chance for me in 2nd round?
NEST 2019 Counselling will be held in two Rounds:
Round 1 of NEST 2019 Counselling- A joint modified merit list will be prepared on the basis of original merit list and the attendance at NISER and CBS. The admissions will be approved strictly on the basis of the merit list.
Round 2 of NEST 2019 Counselling- The applicants are admitted to the vacant seats of the institutes after the first round of counselling. The names of the waitlisted candidates will be announced by the participating institutions on their respective websites.
Last year, the numbers of seats available at the two institutions are as follows:
Category | NISER | CBS |
---|---|---|
General | 101 | 23 |
Supernumerary: J&K | 2 | 2 |
OBC | 54 | 12 |
SC | 30 | 7 |
ST | 15 | 3 |
PD (part of other categories) | 3% seats in each category | 3% seats in each category |
Total | 202 | 47 |

Thank You & All the best!
I have scored 93 percentile in Nest 2019 but my rank did not appear. What does it mean?
Hi Dikshita,
The requirements of NEST exam includes scoring a minimum mark in each subject attempted. If you haven't scored the required mark in any one exam, yet scored very well overall, you won't be considered eligible for the ranking. Maybe, this could be a possibility in your case.
All The Best
My NEST percentile is 62 and qualifying percentile is 35 for SC category but my CRL or SC rank does not show why
Hi Candidate,
It's great to hear that you have qualified the Prestigious NEST Exam!!
NEST stands for National Entrance Screening Test which is conducted for admission into the National Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhubaneswar (NISER) and the Center for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai.
There are four sections in the exam- which comprises of Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology and inorder to appear in the Rank List you have to must qualify in all Subject-Wise cut-offs as it might have happened in your case too. You may have scored the overall cut-off but failed to score above the Individual Subject Cut-off.
Hope that this answer helps you. Have a Good Day!!
