I would like to join NIT Trichy for Btech Chemical Engineering.. is it possible with 84.5 percentile in Jee Main... i am in ST category
Hello!
Yes you can try getting a seat in the department of Chemical engineering in any of the NITs.
However the top NITs like NIT Trichy and Nit Surathkal require high percentile, but you can still try being an ST category candidate.
Moreover, the home state NIT will be open to you for all branches.
Good luck.
I belong to PwD category with exactly 40% Disability.. What is the minimum percentile for me to take CSE BRANCH in NIT TRICHY , Warangal and Surathkal.. what is the minimum percentile for PwD like me..
Hey Gangadhar
See, NIT trichy, warangal and surathkal are some of the top nits of the country hence to get admission here even with PwD quota you will need around 88 percentile to 90 percentile (however since this year is seeing a lot of ups and downs due to the pandemic the cutoff may vary by a little bit). All the best!
Hello.. I belong to OBC-NCL category and exactly 40% of Disability from PwD Category. I scored 80 percentile in Jee Mains January. Can I get CSE BRANCH in NIT TRICHY, Surathkal, Warangal or any NITs.
Hello,
Your over all expected rank will be around 173802. The formula is (100-your total percentile)*869010/100
869010= total number of candidates appeared in JEE Main January session.
Your category rank will be in between 43-143. In 2019 the cut off for Computer Science Engineering for OBC-NCL PWD category was as follows
- NIT, Surathkal: 20
- NIT, Tiruchirapalli: 26
- NIT, Warangal: 21
Considering previous year cut off you may not get seat in these NITs. But cut off may increase or decrease depending on number of candidates appeared, difficulty level of exam, number of seats available etc. You may get seat in NITs like NIT Patna, NIT Puducherry, NIT Silchar, NIT, Rourkela.
i got 80% in barch in january attempt. and my category is st. will i get a seat in nit trichy home state quota?
With 80 percentile in JEE Mains, your rank would be more than 170000 in the common rank list. With this rank you won't be able to geta seat in any government engineering colleges. Even if you have ST reservation and home state quota, you wont be able to get a seat.
You can try to improve your score in the September session of JEE Mains. Please practice a lot and try your best.
You can also go for some top private engineering colleges in India like
- LPU Jalandhar
- Amity University Noida
- Sharda University Greater Noida
- Chandigarh University
- Manipal Institute of Technology
- Galgotias University
i got 80 percentile in jee mains paper 1 . and my catergory is st may i get seat in nit trichy state quota?

Hello,
You haven't mentioned whether you belong to OBC-NCL or OBC-CL, if you come under OBC-CL then you are considered as general category. Your overall category rank is expected to be around 6084 and you can calculate it by the formula (100-your total percentile)*112679/100 where 112679 is the total number of candidates appeared in JEE Main Paper 2 in January session 2020. Your category rank will be around 1000. In 2019 the cut off was as follows
NIT, Calicut
- General: 1362
- OBC-NCL: 804
NIT, Trichy
- General: 1075
- OBC-NCL: 652
You may not get seat in neither of the institutes if you belong to OBC-CL but you may have chances of getting seat in NIT, Calicut if you belong to OBC-NCL category. Cut off in 2020 changes depending on number of candidates appeared, number of seats available and difficulty of exam.
My percentile in jee paper 2 january 2020 was 99.5.....with this score can i get into NIT trichy....???
Hello,
Your overall expected rank will be around 563 and the formula is (100-your total percentile)*112679/100
Where 112679= Total number of candidates appeared in JEE main paper 2.

Considering this you may get seat irrespective of your category and the state you belong to. But cut off may increase or decrease in 2020 depending on difficulty of exam, number of candidates appeared, number of seats available etc.

Considering previous year cut off you may have chances of getting seat in Civil or Production Engineering. Cut off is subjected to change, it may increase or decrease slightly.
