10th-78.5%,12th-84.4%,btech-64% GEM category, going to start digital marketing job after a certification in it should I prepare for CAT?
Dear Gopesh
Your profile is fairly decent. You are on the correct path to get the relevant work ex before joining MBA. Go for 1-2 years of job in marketing and then go for MBA.
Answering your question, over 95 percentile you will have a decent chance in all new IIMs and baby IIMs as well. It will depend upon your percentile and even more on GDPI.
Also if you have percentile in range of 96 plus then MDI gurgaon is a possibility. All other colleges like IITs and IMT are possible over 95.
ALl the best
Based on your profile and your expected CAT percentile, you can get below mentioned colleges:
MDI(provided you clear the sectional cut-offs)
VGSOM, IIT Kharagpur
IIT Delhi
IIT Madras
MHRM, IIT Kharagpur
XIMB (provided you clear the sectional cut-offs)
IIT Kanpur
IIT Roorkee
IMT Ghaziabad
IMI Delhi
IIT Kanpur
K.J. Somaiya
Tapmi
LBSIM
Fore School of Management
Gopesh you have an above average academic profile and if you get above 95 percentile not only in b-schools like IIT Delhi, IIT Mumbai, IMT Ghaziabad but you will also have a chance to get calls from new IIMs like IIM Sambalpur, IIM Amritsar, IIM Amritsar etc. and also from top private colleges like S.P. Jain, MDI Gurgaon, Great Lakes Chennai, JBIMS Mumbai etc.
As you have an above average profile so the calls from b-school will mostly depend on your CAT percentile. Higher the percentile better will be the chances to get a call for the second round of WAT, GD and interview from the top b-schools.
Now as you are going to do a job in digital marketing field for 2-3 years then of course it will help you in getting calls as you will get additional points for your work experience plus it will also help you in getting admission as your interview will be a little more inclined towards your work experience and with good answers you can prove your mettle. Also, it will be helpful in the long run during placements after getting admission in the b-schools. I will advise you to work for 2-years and then get admission as 2-years work experience is ideal to do MBA.
2-years are more than enough time to score a very high percentile in CAT exam so no doubt you should go for it.
Feel free to ask if you have any more queries. All the best!!
