Hi
PGCET ( Post Graduate Common Entrance Test ) in Karnataka , candidates are categorized based on their reservation status . The categories generally include :
1. General : Open category , which includes candidates without any reservation .
2. Scheduled Caste : Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes.
3. Scheduled Tribe : Candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes .
4. Other Backward Classes : Candidates from the OBC category , which may be further divided into categories 2A , 2B , 3A and 3B .
5. Category I : Reserved for certain backward classes as defined by the state government .
For the 3rd category , it refers to Other Backward Classes (OBC) , which may include different subdivisions ( like 2A , 2B ) based on the candidate's specific classification .
3 B comes under the other Backward caste (OBC) in Karnataka. Who get benefits of reservation in educational institutions run be state government, govt jobs and various welfare schemes.
However , Karnataka cabinet had decided to do away with category 3 A and 3 B of OBC and replace them with 2 C and 2D categories. Those in 2 C and 2 D will continue to avail the facilities given to them under 3 A and 3 B.
In general, most state-level PG medical entrance exams, such as PGCET, have no separate category for "3rd B" candidates.
On the other hand, different categories exist on the basis of fact such as:
Category Certificate: If you are a member of a reserved category like SC, ST, OBC, etc., then you will be eligible for the advantages offered to that particular category.
Domicile Certificate: Candidates belonging to the state have some privilege for seat allotment.
Physically Handicapped: Candidates with disabilities will get special quotas and relaxations
To know the actual categories with their weightage, log on to Official PGCET Website
The official website of conducting authority is bound to give all the updates regarding eligibility criteria, reservation policies and allotment of seats.
Consult a Counseling Counselor: A counseling counselor will guide you as to what category you are in and how it might affect your rank in PGCET.
These are the steps that you have to take to know if you are eligible and for which category you are getting your seat.
Hello,
In the Karnataka PGCET (Post Graduate Common Entrance Test) cutoff rank list, the "3rd B" category usually refers to a reservation category based on social and educational background criteria. Karnataka has several reservation categories for PGCET, including categories like General Merit (GM) , SC (Scheduled Caste) , ST (Scheduled Tribe) , Category I, Category II A, Category II B, Category III A, and Category III B .
The Category III B is generally for candidates belonging to the Backward Classes (BC) who fall under the Category III B classification as per the Karnataka state reservation policy. These candidates are eligible for reservation benefits if they meet the income and caste certification requirements set by the Karnataka government.
To confirm whether you fall under the Category III B (often listed as 3B in rank lists), check your caste and income certificate to see if they match the state’s official reservation list for this category. The cutoff ranks for 3B can vary significantly depending on the course and institution, so it’s essential to consult the official PGCET rank list and seat matrix for precise details each year.
Hope it helps !
