Correct Answer: 10 litres

Solution : Given: 80 litres of a mixture contains milk and water in a ratio of 27 : 5.
Quantity of milk in 80 litres = $\frac{27}{32}$ × 80 = 67.50
Quantity of water in 80 litres = 80 – 67.50 = 12.50
Let $x$ litres of water be mixed.
So, the new ratio is 3 : 1.
⇒ $\frac{67.5}{12.5+x}=\frac{3}{1}$
⇒ $67.5=37.5+3x$
⇒ $3x=30$
⇒ $x=10$ litres
Hence, the correct answer is 10 litres.
