95% 10th/ 91% 12th/ 6.7 gpa in NIT/ 80% in CAT/ ST category,6 months work exp,got calls frm IIMB, new & baby iims? My chances of conversion?
Hi Vivek!
You have a pretty decent score in both your school and BE and that itself has played a major role in making you get calls from all the IIMs. Since you have not mentioned the category you belong to, it gives a boost considering the fact that the admission would be based only on the pool of candidates in the same category as yours.
First of all, the basic eligibility for CAT is 50% in your graduation and you are in the safe harbor. Getting into an IIM is a different story though. Each IIMs have their own admission criteria and vary accordingly, and the weight given to CAT percentile is also different. Some colleges like IIM Bangalore depend heavily on your academics, which in your case is pretty high, but other IIMs like IIM-Calcutta go easy on the academics and weigh heavily on the CAT.
Since you've got all the calls right now and going by the previous year trends, it is pretty evident that you'd easily convert most of the calls, especially the older IIMs given that you do your WAT/PI very well. All that said, I assume you know the cutthroat competition by now and thus it is not advisable to sit back and relax while waiting for the admission. The game has just begun because irrespective of the category, the students who apply are highly deserving and they will make sure they stand tall while performing in the interviews.
That being said, once you get a call from the IIMs, another obstacle to cross is the PI-WAT. Again, it depends upon different IIMs. Some IIMs like IIM Bangalore and IIM Indore give very less weight for your CAT percentile ( a mere 25%) and others like IIM Udaipur give 55% to your CAT score while calculating your composite score for the final admission. Thus scoring high only in CAT doesn't guarantee a seat and the real game begins only after that. Please spend an ample amount of time reading current affairs, your degree syllabus, your aspirations in life and also about how you will contribute to your peers if you get admission.
Good luck belling the CAT! Feel free to drop in your queries.
