Correct Answer: 55.5
Solution : Let the average before the 17 th match be $x$. New average after 17 th match = $x$ + 2.5 Runs scored in the 17 th match = 98 runs Total runs before the 17 th match = 16$x$ ⇒ 16$x$ + 98 = ($x$ + 2.5) × 17 ⇒ 17$x$ – 16$x$ = 98 – 42.5 ⇒ $x$ = 55.5 Hence, the correct answer is 55.5.
