When a magnet is permitted to fall verically along the axis of the metallic ring  (which is held horizontally), the upper face of the ring will develop the same polarity as that of the pole of the magnet facing the ring. This is an attempt to oppose the approaching magnet via repulsion (in accordance with Lenz's Law). Hence acceleration reduces and is less than 'g'.

If coil is broken at any point (as in your question) then induced emf will be generated in it but no induced current will flow. In this condition the coil will not oppose the motion of magnet and the magnet will fall freely with the acceleration, equal to 'g'.

Thank You

hello rohan,

The simple answer to your question is:

There wii be no EMF induced because it does not cut any component of earth's field so it falls under earth's gravity only and hence the acceleration of this magnet is equal to 'g'.

Hope this will clear your doubt.

Thanks
