Correct Answer: Rs. 5
Solution :
Given: A reduction of 20% in the price of sugar enables a purchaser to obtain 8 kg more for Rs. 160.
Let the original price be Rs. $100x$. After a reduction of 20%, the price decreased by Rs. $20x$.
Rs. $20x$ is the cost of 8 kg of more sugar.
Now, Rs. $100x$ will enable the purchase of ($\frac{8×100x}{20x}$) = 40 kg more sugar.
So, we get 40 kg of sugar now for Rs.160.
Earlier, we got (40 – 8) = 32 kg sugar for Rs. 160
Therefore, the price per kg before the reduction was = $\frac{160}{32}$ = Rs. 5
Hence, the correct answer is Rs. 5.
