Correct Answer: 17 km/hr

Solution : Given:
A ship goes at 18 km/hr downstream and at 16 km/hr upstream.
Let the speed of the ship be $x$ and the speed of the stream be $y$.
So, at downstream $x+y=18$ -----------(1)
At upstream $x-y=16$ ---------------(2)
Solving both equations, we get $x=17,y=1$
So, the speed of the ship in still water is 17 km/hr.
Hence, the correct answer is 17 km/hr.
