A student is performing an experiment to study the properties of acetic acid. Answer the following questions : (i) Name the substance he must add to acetic acid to produce carbon dioxide.
Answer (1)
Dear student,
He must add baking soda ( NaHCO3 ) in vinegar ( CH3COOH ), to get carbon dioxide ( CO2 ). Also he will get sodium acetate ( CH3COO - Na + ) and water ( H2O ) by this reaction.
The reaction between NaHCO3 and CH3COOH is as follows :-
NaHCO3(s) + CH3COOH(l) = CO2(g) + H2O(l) + Na+(aq) + CH3COO-(aq)
