A triangular wedge of mass M is placed on a smooth horizontal surface. A block of mass m is placed on the wedge. The coefficient of friction between the block and the wedge is 0.6. The horizontal acceleration a of the wedge such that m moves up the wedge is
First of all assume the direction of acceleration of the bigger wedge along the surface . Then make free body diagram for smaller block with respect to the wedge . Don't forget to apply pseudo force on it. For friction , since it is an extreme case of motion we can assume it to be limiting. For direction of friction force don't worry. Assume it in any direction , this will give either the minimum or the maximum acceleration required.
