The eligibility criteria for appearing in UPSC exam through which you can become an IAS is to have passed a graduation degree in any stream.
Candidates from all stream (arts, commerce and science) crack this exam so its nothing like you will get any kind of advantage with a specific subject.Earlier it was said that Arts/humanities stream is helpful in further preparation for UPSC but from past few year most of toppers are engineering and are from science background so it doesn't matter what subject you study in graduation.
Now, in case if you want a proper backup plan then you should aim for engineering into IITs and if you would get into that then there's nothing better than that as you will have a good backup option.
So, choice is yours.
Good Luck
Hello student. Since your aim is to become IAS, ypubneed to have a degree for sure. I would suggest you to go for engineering in a better college. It need not be specifically from IIT or NIT. If you can, then well and good, go on. Any best colleges in india would go since you would have time to prepare for IAS as well as exposure to the side of technology before pursuing IAS
