Hello,
The eligibility criteria of UPSC Civil Service Exam states that candidates need to be 21 years old and pass graduation in any stream from a recognized university, final year students too can apply on provisional basis, now if you only want to be IAS which by the way require immense focus and dedication on one's part to be able to qualify this exam, as UPSC tends to be more humanities oriented you can choose to do Hons in subjects like political science, public administration, history, economics, geography to name a few, this will help as you'll cover the core parts of the syllabus, the preparation process will become a bit easy unlike say in case of science or commerce students who have t restart all these subjects as they hadn't studied these at their 10+2 level, another important thing to consider is if you want to have a back up plan, in case you belong to science or commerce stream you have some other plans you can absolutely go ahead, as I said there is no barrier for appearing in UPSC, you can consider this option as well, and just to let you know people from diverse backgrounds qualify the exam such as medical, engineering, commerce etc, hence it's more about planning and strategy that works, if you are dedicated, focused and persistent then nothing can stop you.
UPSC CSE preparation strategy along with best books for prelims as well as mains exam for sure success.
Dear Aspirant
Sorry but now you are not eligible for this exam because for it you must apply for CSE exam conducted by the UPSC . You must also crack the exam (preliminary, mains and interview) in order to get selected for the training. ... So technically, 12th passed students can 't appear for this exam right after 12th
the minimum age required is 21
