In many countries, including India, individuals who have completed a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Optometry are often permitted to use the title ‘Dr.’ before their name, as long as they have also obtained a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree or an equivalent professional qualification. However, it is essential to verify the specific regulations and guidelines set forth by the relevant professional licensing bodies or authorities in your country or region.

Hiii.... after b.sci optometry will not use "Dr"prefix for your name....but you have another option....will you complete your doctor of optometry (OD) in USA or UAE.. definitely you can use Dr before your name..plan and work accordingly... All the best.

Hello,

BSC optometry is an under graduate program offered by Amrita center for Allied health science. It's a 4 years course including 1year training.

An optometrist is a doctor of optometry (O.D.), and not a medical doctor. She/he has to work through various vision therapies to treat abnormalities, and can prescribe drugs for the eyes. If surgery is required, the patient is sent to an ophthalmologist (M.D). But you can't write Dr front of your name. Because only getting BSC degree no one can be a doctor. You have to pass MBBS then you will become a doctor.

All the best.

A Bachelor of Optometry is exactly that. Bachelor of Optometry. It is not enough to work as an optometrist. That requires a Ph.D. (O.D.). A doctorate allows one to be called a "Doctor" but it is not a medical degree. Examples of PhD degrees are OD, PhD, EdD, PharmD, etc. To become an ophthalmologist, a physician specializing in eye diseases and disorders, you would need a medical degree, an M.D.

**optometry and opthalmology are two different things.

I hope my answer helps. All the very best for your future endeavors!
