After completing BVSc in India, how can I practice as a veterinarian in US? Which exams should I take after the course?
Hello Aspirant,
In order to work as a veterinarian outside India , you need to clear the Licensing Examinations. In case of USA, UK and Canada, the relevant Licensing Examinations are-
1.Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG)
It is a Certification program held by the American Veterinary Medical Association. This certification program will help Graduates of Non-Accredited Veterinary Schools get certification. This certification is accepted by all Licensing boards, when a Graduate applies for Licensure. This certification will help Veterinary Graduates build a career in USA (it is accepted in all 50 states). This certification program has 4 steps whihc includes verification of credentials,English Proficiency test ,basic clinical sciences examination and 3 -4 days long Clinical Proficiency Examination.
2.Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence (PAVE) is similar to the previous one an dis accepted among countries like- USA (41 States/Territories), Australia and New Zealand. The 4 steps here are similar to ECFVG , except the final clinical proficiency test. This can be done by either completing at least 12 months of evaluated clinical experience at an accredited Veterinary school or by passing VCSA (Veterinary Clinical Skills Assessment) examination. VCSA
3. NAVLE (North American Veterinary Licensing Examination) - this is specifically for USA and Canada .But to appear for NAVLE examination one must possess ECFVG/PAVE Certificate to be considered eligible to apply.
I suggest you search and learn more about these certifications in detail . Hope it helps.
