The job opening in railway is in two way :-
1. Non -gazetted level ,and
2. Gazetted officers cadre level.
The selection to first one is through -
a) Open competitive exams conducted by RRB ( Railway Recruitment Board ) in group C ( like Junior engineer, station masters, loco pilot, guards , para-medical staff like pharmacist etc, you can participate with graduation level degree.
b) Some times group D ‘ recruitment also done through RRC ( Railway recruitment cell ) at each zonal railway wise. may participate also
Second one that is officer level- recruitment is through UPSC. further there are two channels -one civil service ( any graduate can participate ) you can take civil services to enter to IRTS,IRAS,IR(RPF)S, IRPS . another engineering service exam- Civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics and communication where you are not eligible.
There are N number of ways to get a job in railways and it all depends upon your qualifications.

2. Group C : Minimum qualification is graduate and for technical post you need a diploma or degree for JE and SSE post respectively .Examination is conducted by RRB (railway recruitment board).
Update : Railway board is planning to induct SSE into group B but that will take time.
3. Group B : No recruitment for this class , internally employee from group C are promoted to group B by conducting LDCE exam.
4. Group A: Exam conducted by upsc every year for degree holders in civil , mechanical, electrical and electronics & telecommunication branch.
NOTE - Direct recruitment to SSE has been stopped from this year.
