Hello dear student,

Greetings!

Recruitment to the medical posts in armed forces  is through Permanent Commission (PC) and Short Service Commission (SSC).

1. Let's talk about  Short Service Commission first:-

For this upper Age Limit is 45 Years.

  • Every year or twice a year, Army Medical Corps invites application from doctors (male and female) to join as Short Service Commissioned Medical Officers.

  • Eligible candidates are called for an interview at New Delhi to assess their merit and suitability for grant of Short Service Commission in the Army Medical Corps and subsequent secondment to the Indian Army/Air Force/Navy.

  • Based on the results of the interview, candidates who have been shortlisted are subjected to medical examination at designated Armed Forces hospitals in New Delhi.

  • Medically fit candidates are granted commission subject to verification procedures as deemed necessary as required for commissioning.

  • Postgraduate degree holders i.e. MD/MS/MCh/DM may also apply.

2. Permanent Commission

SSC officers can appear in their departmental interviews for grant of Permanent Commission (DPC) at any time after completion of 2 (two) years SSC service and before completion of 9  (nine years and six months) years of SSC service subject to fulfilment of other eligibility criteria. Also, there should be no break in service.

The age limit for granting PC for different professional educational qualification are :

  • MBBS :-Not more than 30 years on 31 Dec of the year of application for DPC.

  • PG Diploma :-Not more than 31 years on 31 Dec of the year of application for DPC.

  • PG Degree :-Not more than 35 years on 31 Dec of the year of application for DPC.

Now coming to vacancies part , then I would say it  keeps varying and you need to wait for the release of forms  to know the number of vacancies.

For example,  this year Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) had invited applications to fill up Short Service Commissioned Officer (SSC Officer). A total of 150 Vacancies had been notified out of which 135 are for Male candidates and 15 vacancies were reserved for Female candidates , but the last date to apply for it was 21 July 2019 so you can't apply now.

Vacancies are posted on a site for which link is given below :-

Hello,

To join the Indian Army as a doctor, you must study in AFMC.

AFMC stands for Armed Forces Medical College situated in Pune. Earlier, AFMC used to conduct their own exam but not any more. Now, admission is based partly on your NEET Exam.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. He/she must be a Citizen of India.

2. He/she must be unmarried throughout the course.

3. He/she should be medically fit according to the criteria issued by the Ministry of Defence.

4. He/she should have completed 17 years of age but should not be more than 22 years of age (24 years if you're doing a BSc degree and are in final year/have passed).

5. Achievement of atleast 60% in PCB and 50% individually in each subject along with English. Also, he/she should have passed all the subjects in their first attempt. Passing in Mathematics in 10th standard is also required.

Admission Process:

1. When you apply with your NEET result, you are required to take the ToELR test which is a computer based exam testing you in English, Logic and Reasoning. It consists of 40 questions to be done in 30 minutes.

2. The NEET Exam result and the TOELR Exam result are added and divided by 4 to get a score out of 200.

3. An interview worth 50 marks is also held.

4. A merit list is prepared according to the total marks and domicile has no role in it whatsoever.

There are only 105 seats for boys and 25 seats for girls.

You can check out the previous year's cutoffs and other information in the following article:

Hope it helps
