Hey Prateek , Greetings!
If you want to practice medicine without doing your MBBS in Australia or New Zealand, you will need to do Australian Medical Council AMC Exam. This exam is to test whether you have the medical knowledge and passing the exam makes you equivalent to an Australian medical graduate. This test is in two parts: Part 1: Mulitple choice questions - This tests your medical knowledge and asks you a range of questions from all medical specialities. Part 2: Once you have cleared part 1, which should be very easy considering the medical education in India, you will need to do part 2 which is the clinical test. This test is a lot harder and you will need experience before doing this test. The problem is due to the oversupply of international medical graduates you will need to wait on average 18 montsh from passing AMC part I to undertake AMC part II. To participate in AMC exam you need to show your English language proficiency. You can do this by getting A or B on OET or 7+ on all sections of IELTS. When you pass both parts, you will be given AMC Certificate. This entitiles you to apply for internship in Australia. You need to do a one year internship in Australia to receive general registration and you need general registration to apply for all medical specialist training postions in AUstralia. The catch is that there arent enough internship positions available and international medical graduates simply do not get a place and thus cannot receive general registration. It is very bleak at the moment with thousands of AMC Certificate holders jobless as they cannot get internship. Many of them work in other fields such as taxi driving, manual labouring and it is sad to see.
Hope this will help . Good Luck ! You can reply to this comment if you have any further queries , I will be happy to help .
