after higher secondary i want to study and research in physics
Hey Anirbit
Hope you are doing good.
First of all you need to know what is your real field of interest. Surely its physics but you see, physics can have discreet topics: thermodynamics, vibration and wave optics, fluid mechanics are some for instance. You cannot possibly research on something belonging from all of these just as all of these won't intrigue you.
So here is what you can do.
You can apply for Bsc Physics. There will be different subjects including Mathematics Chemistry and sometimes statistics. But this will all be in favor of taking you close to science. Once you are here, you will find different fields that you can take as your higher education. Grab a Masters for that field. Now you are close to your research dream. You can do phd which would require of you a research paper.
Second thing you can do is to get an Engineering degree as many others of this country do then grab a masters in the field that suits you. By this time you will be following research papers of profs from different institutes. Masters and phd can be the research credential but there are scopes for even more depth on a field. Remember when you go higher on qualification, your field narrows down.
Third and the most conducive way to get yourself into research is to get into institutes that teaches pure science: IISc, IISER, TIFR for instance are the renowned ones. Admission into them varies, For instance you can get into IISC through KVPY. You can find admission criteria in institute websites,
These are the options to you but its important to note that its your researchers mind that would decide your research career but not the paths you take. So keep working hard.
Good Luck
