After getting placed as a Software Engineer in India office of a top tech company (Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Yahoo!, Xerox, Adobe, Walmart Labs, Directi etc.) as a fresher, your in hand monthly salaries after tax and PF deduction ranges between INR 80k and INR 1.1L.

It largely depends on how your compensation plan is structured. Usually, many tech companies advertise their pay packages as 25+ LPA during their pre-placement talks but that is highly misleading. They add the RSUs that vest across 3 or 4 years into the equation hence highly inflating the salary package. Google, Directi, Intuit, Xerox, Amazon, Microsoft etc. are the top inflaters!!!
In pre-placement talks, focus on the base salary and the sign-on bonus to get an idea of cash component that you will be receiving. Your in hand monthly salary will roughly be approximatly:
(0.85*(base salary + first year's sign on bonus).
The missing 15 per cent is for the income tax deduction and provident fund contribution.
Moreover, if you get a US offer; your base salary will be around 100,000 dollars. On that, you will have to pay around 35-40 per cent as tax. So, your monthly salary will be around 5000 dollars. This applies to all tech companies which hire from India for their US offices viz. Facebook, Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn. All those news articles that say A student from B college offered C salary from D company where C is a huge number, are highly misleading. The media people who publish those articles have no idea of compensation structure. They add base salary + bonuses + stocks over four years + food + relocation benefits and multiply by 70 (dollar to INR exchange rate) and publish as a shiny eye-catching headline.

So you can expect average salary around 8-10 lack per annum for India and 35-40 lack per annum for foreigen offer.
