Information for Students

Eligibility
-
For Astronomy / Biology / Chemistry / Physics :
- Must be an Indian citizen. (OCI students are eligible to participate till OCSC stage, subject to qualification.)
- Date of birth between 1 July 2000 and 30 June 2005, both days inclusive. Students must carry a valid proof of date of birth issued by a competent government agency to the exam centre.
- Must be residing and studying in India since 30 November 2017 or earlier. OR Must be studying in an Indian school system since 30 November 2017 or earlier.
- Must not have passed class 12 board examination earlier than 30 November 2020.
- Must not have commenced (or planning to commence) studies in a university or equivalent institution by 1 June, 2021.

For Junior Science :
- Must be an Indian citizen. (OCI students are eligible to participate till OCSC stage, subject to qualification.)
- Date of birth between 1 January 2005 and 31 December 2006, both days inclusive. Students must carry a valid proof of date of birth issued by a competent government agency to the exam centre.
- Must be residing and studying in India since 30 November 2017 or earlier. OR Must be studying in an Indian school system since 30 November 2017 or earlier.
- Must not have passed class 10 board examination earlier than 30 November 2020.
- To be considered for selection to the Indian team for international Olympiads students must hold a valid Indian Passport before the beginning of the respective Orientation-cum-Selection Camp (OCSC). The date of expiry of the passport should be no sooner than six months after the conclusion of the relevant International Olympiad. If you do not have a valid Indian Passport, apply for it immediately.
- In addition, the selection of the members to the Indian team is subject to satisfying requirements such as age limit, parental and institutional consent, etc.
- It is the student's responsibility to determine that he/she satisfies eligibility norms. If at some later stage it is found that the student does not meet eligibility norms, he/she may face disqualification from the programme. The student will be required to provide a copy of her/his valid Indian passport at the beginning of OCSC, should the student be selected for OCSC.

INO syllabus
- Biology / Chemistry / Physics: The syllabus for INO is broadly equivalent to the senior secondary level (up to Class XII) of CBSE in the respective subject.
- Astronomy: The syllabus for INAO is broadly equivalent to the senior secondary level (up to Class XII) of CBSE in Physics and Mathematics (calculus not included), elementary popular astronomy and basic knowledge of night sky observation.
- Junior Science: The syllabus for INJSO is broadly equivalent to the secondary level (up to Class X) of CBSE.
- For all the INOs, questions and problems are usually non-conventional and of high difficulty level, comparable to International Olympiads.

Travel
- Students whose residence is at a distance of less than 100 km from INO centre will be deemed local. Students residing beyond 100 km from the INO centre will be deemed outstation.
- Local students will be paid a fixed flat amount of Rs. 150/-per day. Outstation students appearing for INO will be paid fixed flat amount of Rs. 600/- as travel allowance.
- Candidates from north-eastern states are encouraged to select Guwahati as the examination centre. In case Kolkata is the allotted/chosen centre, such students are entitled to Air Travel (Economy Class) by Air India from the nearest airport to Kolkata.
- Overseas students are not entitled to any travelling allowance.

Accommodation and Boarding
- No accommodation and boarding will be provided by the local Centre Coordinator for the outstation candidates. However, the Centre Coordinator will try to assist with information about accommodation.
- Outstation students will be paid a fixed flat lodging and boarding allowance of Rs.450/- per day. No expenses for lodging and boarding for local students will be provided.
