Hello Aspirant,

I hope you are doing well.

It is up to you whether you wish to avail admission in your state universities or not. It is not compulsory to upload the domicile certificate and is optional for CLAT 2022. You must upload the domicile certificate if you wish to secure admission through state quota.

But, when CLAT declares the merit list it also publishes a separate state wise rank list and during the allotment process. If your AIR is higher than your state rank and if you get a good state rank as compared to the AIR you can get admission through the state quota. All this will be only possible if the Domicile certificate is submitted beforehand and not at the time of admission otherwise, for example, NUSRL has 60 seats under the state quota and 60 for candidates from other states and your name will not be in state merit list because of not submitting the certificate so it might be a problem.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck.
