Hello,

Amines can be considered as the derivatives of ammonia, obtained by replacement of hydrogen of Ammonia (NH3) by alkyl/aryl group.

Amines are classified into three types depending upon the number of hydrogen atoms replaced by alkyl/aryl group. They are

  1. Primary Amine ( or 1 Degree)
  2. Secondary Amines ( or 2 Degree )
  3. Tertiary Amines (or  3 Degree)

Example for -

  • Primary Amine ( or 1 Degree) - propylamine, methylamine
  • Secondary Amines ( or 2 Degree ) - methylpropylamine , diethylamine
  • Tertiary Amines (or  3 Degree) - ethyldimethylamine, isopropyldimethylamine

Hello dear student,

So amines are basically organic compound which are derived from ammonia with the replacement of one or more hydrogen atoms by organic functional groups. Amines are basically weaker bases and we use prefix of amino or suffix of amine which are included in their name. Examples are trimethylamine, aniline etc

I hope this was helpful

Thank you
