Kolkata has a number of top notch institutes but only few of them offer a Bachelors degree for Mass communication, the details of which I have mentioned below.
Media Studies comprises of different subjects related to media from Mass Communication, Journalism to Audio-Visual Communication to open up a vast horizon for the aspirant students to build up their career either through employment in media and corporate houses or by self-employment. The course is totally vocational and practical based under professional and experienced faculty from Universities, Media and Corporate Sectors.
Duration of the course is 3 years.
INSTITUTES OFFERING MASS COMMUNICATION PROGRAMME:
1.IMCFTS -Institute of Mass Communication Film And Television Studies
Admission Criteria: Candidate seeking admission to the B.A (Hons.) in Media Studies course must secure minimum 45% aggregate and 55% in the Language or 50% in aggregate and 45% in Language in 10+2.
Fees: Actual fees applicable at present will be known only by contacting at the office, otherwise on the basis of previous year, total fees is nearly Rs.2,80,000.
Placement: Companies from all Media Sectors.
2. St. Xavier's College
B.A. (GENERAL) Mass Communication & Videography department
Eligibility Criteria for Application:
Compulsory Subject(s) in 10+2 level:English, Aggregate calculation: English + Any 3 subjects, Marks requirement for Application: 50% in Aggregate.
Placement:
Those from the last batch who are not pursuing any PG courses and those who have completed there PG courses, most of them are working in the television, advertising & film industries (viz, NDTV, CNN-IBN, AAJTAK, ZEE Network, STAR Network, SONY Entertainment; Percept, JWT, O&M etc) either as trainees/assistants or as full-time journalists, programme producers, production executives, technical experts, independent filmmakers etc.

3. Birla Institute of Liberal Arts and Management Sciences [BILAMS]
Admission: Admission for all courses is on the basis of interaction with senior faculty members. This is to determine the candidate's level of interest in the subject and to ensure proper fitment of candidate and subject.
Fee structure : Not available on official website
Placement: Students have been recruited by top organizations like India Today , The Statesman, The Telegraph, HTA, Response, Ogilvy & Mather and Espee among others.
Other renowned colleges such as Seth Anandaram Jaipuria College, Rani Birla Girl's College, University of Calcutta, Annex College of Management Studies - [ACMS]. George College, The Bhawanipur Education Society College - [BESC] and Subhas Bose Institute of Hotel Management - [SBIHM] either do not provide Bachelor's degree in Mass communication or provide only to science stream students.
