Any IITians here who used to be a mediocre student? what's your secret?

While I am not an IITian myself, but am friends with a few of them and they were all average students back in high school. However, they focussed on concept building extensively in class 11th and 12th and cut themselves from the material world upto a huge extent. Hope that helped. All the best.
