Yes entrance exams are necessary to take admission in any course to any colleges.Nowdays most of the colleges intake students based on the merit based entrance examinations.So yes they  are necessary if you take up any course after 12th commerce.However some colleges are also there that take students based on the class 12th marksheet based on the subjects you choose.
