Dear Candidate,
Nowadays, a lot of attention is paid to the diversification one shows towards his/her job. The better skillset & baggage of skills you have to showcase from different backgrounds, the better you are seen as a Candidate for future. The more you can offer to your post as a Assistant professor, the better it will be towards your chances of getting better opportunities in future.
It may absolutely work, if you don't work on extra curriculars, but having extra things shows flexibility & willingness to take up new things in life. It's quite a win-win situation if you can pursue it.
